This fabric for this leotard was machine-washed and tumble dried before sewing. Of course, the fabric was handled during the cutting and sewing process. Foils are applied to the tops of fabrics so are vulnerable to wear and tear. I recommend washing them on a gentle cycle inside out and hanging to dry outside of direct sunlight which can fade the foil. Other clothing in a wash or drier load can rub foil off of the fabric.
